When is it time to go to therapy?

  • September 25, 2017
If you've ever wondered when it's time to see a psychologist, this article is for you.
Therapy

Is You may have felt the need to seek psychological help to manage certain aspects of your life at some point, but you've held back because you didn't know if it was the right time to do so. While each person is different and has their own needs and circumstances, the answer to our question is very simple.

In fact, I think you already know: Chances are if you've already considered seeking psychological help, it's because you know you would benefit from it.

There may be many reasons to seek therapy, but in general, if you feel there's something you want to change about yourself (thoughts, beliefs, and emotions) and you don't know how, seeing a psychologist is a good option. It may also be that something, which you can't yet define, is bothering you. That discomfort, which is difficult to express in words, is telling you that it's time to begin your therapeutic process.

It is often difficult to take that first step and schedule an appointment, but it is important to remember that taking action and seeking professional help is essential. demonstrates your commitment to your own mental and emotional well-being. Furthermore, psychotherapy It is a strong sign of determination. Determination to live in an intentional and full way.

Sometimes we think the best way to deal with emotional distress is to ignore or deny it. But this can backfire and make us feel alone. as if we were carrying an emotional burden heavier than we feel we can carry. Psychotherapy can help you lessen that burden.

As you can see, there are no hard and fast rules about when to seek therapy or psychological counseling.

But then… when do I have to start my therapy?

Ok, if you still don't trust your internal compass much, or like me, you can't resist lists, here are the most frequent reasons for consultation in my practice..

Psychotherapy can help you if:

✔ You feel that anxiety or fear blocks you

✔ You want to thrive in the face of life's changes and transitions

✔ Your emotions cause you distress and you feel overwhelmed

✔ You want to reevaluate and delve deeper into your goals and life plan/decision making

✔ You think you are not reaching your potential due to stress, perfectionism, and insecurities.

✔ You have intrusive thoughts that keep you from enjoying your daily life.

✔ You want to feel like YOU are the one in control of your life

A final reflection…

Psychology is interested in human behavior and thought, and many people can benefit from an empathetic, safe, and fully personalized space.

The Psychologist Guy Wench puts it in a very simple way:

If you have a cut, you wrap it with a bandage and, to treat an infection, you take antibiotics without question, right? In fact, it would be questionable if you didn't apply first aid when it was needed. So why isn't the same true when it comes to our mental health?

Seeking psychological help can be the first step toward a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Remember, there is no health without mental health.

I invite you to reflect… you already have the answer.
